With Love…

Happy Valentine's Day! February is, among a number of things, a month dedicated to love.* And, while I'm not usually a big fan of greeting card holidays, I do appreciate an opportunity to reflect on and acknowledge the persons, places and things in my life that I love. One thing I've been thinking about a lot lately - trying to better understand - is my love of movement.

What IS it about movement that I love so? Whether it's delivered in the form of a yoga practice, strength training session, walk with my dog, or hand balancing, there is something about moving my body that instantly organizes my mind. Often a jumble of thoughts and words falling over one another to find their place and turn at expression, my mind is a mess! But, without fail, when I put my body in motion, my thoughts find order and (mostly) coherent expression.

Another thing I love about movement is connection, which I think speaks a bit to the organizing element of movement - I feel more connected and present during and after a good movement session of any type. But beyond connection with one's self, it's been my experience that connection with others - community - springs up around meaningful movement. I see it in all of my classes. In my prenatal class, pregnant women connect with one another and form friendships and a network of support. Similarly, whether in All Levels Yoga Class or Strength & Mobility for Women, the participants are checking in and catching up with one another before class, making coffee or lunch plans, trading business cards and, generally, encouraging and supporting one another.

I'd love to connect with you! I hope you can join me for a class - in person or online - soon! My weekly class schedule is below and, as a token of my love, I've opened up my youtube library and made a number of videos public.

*February is also Black History Month, Chinese New Year, the beginning of Lent and host to a number of special days including National Tater Tot Day, Tell a Fairy Tale Day, and National Public Sleeping Day ( an excuse to practice savasana anywhere!) In addition, this February is leap year! For the shortest month of the year, even with an extra day, it's packed full!
